Going Deeper… (Psalm 67)

Here are some questions based on last Sunday’s sermon text (Psalm 67), in case they’re helpful to you for personal growth or group discussion…

  • [1] Read Numbers 6:22-27. From this priestly blessing, what would you guess it might look like in your life to be blessed by God? Can you think of other Scriptures that help fill out a picture of what God’s blessings do—or do not necessarily—look like?
  • [2] Do you pray for God to bless you so that others can come to know him, too? Or do your prayers for blessings usually just stop with yourself? Considering who God is, why is the former the better way to pray?
  • [3, 5] Do you give a hoot whether God is praised by “all the peoples”? Why or why not? (Use this Psalm in prayer to ask God to help you to give a hoot!) What are you supposed to do with the desire that God be praised by all the peoples? What have you done with that desire?
  • [4] Why does the Psalmist think the nations should “be glad and sing for joy”? Are his reasons pleasant prospects to you? Why or why not?
  • [6-7] Read Genesis 1:27-28. God’s fundamental disposition toward people has always been one of blessing people (Genesis 5:2; 9:1; 12:1-3; 17:15-16; 22:15-18; 24:1, et cetera). He starts with nothing and brings forth tremendous increase and multiplication. How has Jesus done this with and through his disciples? Do you think he will continue to do so, even through such as you? Why or why not?
