Going Deeper… (Psalm 111)

Here are some questions based on last Sunday’s sermon text (Psalm 111), in case they’re helpful to you for personal growth or group discussion…

  • [1] Do you come to church and praise the Lord with your whole heart? What parts of the worship service make it easier for you to do that? What parts might be more difficult for you?
  • [2] Do you delight in what God has made, in what God has done, in what God has revealed? Are you familiar with his works? Are his works important to you? Are his works engrained in your memory? Do his works have an impact in your life? Do you talk about his works with others?
  • Do you tend to think of the Christian life as centered more around your works or God’s works? When you study the Scriptures, what are you looking for primarily, things for you to do or the things that God has done? If you became more impressed with the greatness of God’s works, what changes do you think that might make in your life?
  • [3, 6-7] How is the incarnation of Jesus Christ full of splendor and majesty? His cross? His resurrection? How are these works powerful, faithful, and just?
  • [4-5] God has given us the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper to cause us to remember his wondrous works. How is it a reminder? What sense do you get about it, that it is a stern reminder, or a celebratory one, or…?
  • [9-10] Wisdom is knowing how to live all of life with God. Every bit of wisdom is founded upon the fear of the Lord, which is evoked by the absolute greatness of who he is and his works. What does it look like for a Christian to grow in wisdom? How is this different from common worldly perspectives on wisdom in our culture?
