Here are some questions based on last Sunday’s sermon text (Psalm 67), in case they’re helpful to you for personal growth or group discussion…
- [1] Read Numbers 6:22-27. This is not a prayer for generic blessing, but a priestly prayer for the blessing of a special relationship with God. (Ultimately, in his role as our High Priest, Jesus prayed/prays this prayer for us.) What does this mean for the life of someone who has been blessed in this way by God? Have you been blessed in this way? What are some other ways in which we can talk about blessing that may or may not align with this conception of God’s blessing?
- [1-2, 6-7] The Psalmist believes that God’s blessing of his people will result in others coming to know God. What are some ways in which this might happen? Can you think of examples of people in the Bible who consider themselves “terminals” of God’s blessing rather than “conduits?” How might you be a conduit for the revelation of God’s grace to others in your life?
- [3-5] At the heart of this Psalm is the prayer for all people to praise God, to rejoice in their knowledge of God. It is a prayer, which implies that it won’t happen unless God acts. Does this prayer reflect your longings? Why or why not? Why should we want to pray this prayer? Can you think of times when Jesus prayed similar prayers? Has God acted in answer to this prayer, historically? Are you willing to allow God to use you to answer this prayer?
