Here are some questions based on last Sunday’s sermon text (Psalm 3), in case they’re helpful to you for personal growth or group discussion…
- [1-4] In the midst of serious conflict, David turns to the Lord in prayer. What are the alternatives? Why would we not pray every time we find ourselves in conflict with others? Why would you want to pray?
- Who are your enemies? Where are you experiencing conflict? What is the nature of the conflict you experience? What’s the worst part of the conflict? What is threatened by the conflict? In what way(s) have you sinned against God and others in the conflict? How are you praying through the conflict? How could Psalm 3 help you in the conflict?
- Do you have a sense of what it means for God to be your shield? Your glory? The lifter of your head? How is he these things to you because of the Gospel of Jesus Christ?
- [5-6] What do you do to relieve stress? Can you imagine how knowing the Gospel, trusting God, and praying could grant your soul rest and help you not to be afraid of anyone? If you were not afraid of others, how could you interact with them differently?
- [7-8] “Salvation belongs to Yahweh.” Yahweh is the God who saves. That’s what Jesus’ name means! He owns salvation—the very idea of salvation is his idea to begin with. And he has accomplished it in Christ. Do you believe it? What has he saved you from?
