Here are some questions based on last Sunday’s sermon text (John 156:4b-15), in case they’re helpful to you for personal growth or group discussion…
- [6-7] The disciples are sorrowful to imagine life apart from Jesus. Jesus tells them it will be better for him to go and to send the Spirit to them. How can it be better? Do you ever think or feel like it would be easier to be a Christian if Jesus were in the room? Or do you believe you have the advantage over the disciples who spent three years on the road with Jesus? Why or why not?
- Do you believe that Jesus has sent the Spirit? Why or why not?
- [8-11] Why do sinners have such a hard time acknowledging their own sin? Have you experienced Christ-centered, Gospel-centered conviction of your sin? What is that like? Do you believe this work of the Spirit is good? Do you still resist it, even though you believe it to be good?
- [12-15] The Spirit glorifies Christ by telling us what the Father has shared with the Son. Why does the Spirit so selflessly glorify Christ? Why is it so important for us that he does so?
