Here are some questions based on last Sunday’s sermon text (John 7:25-39), in case they’re helpful to you for personal growth or group discussion…
- [37] Jesus says, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink.” What does that mean? Can you describe what it means to be thirsty in the way Jesus is talking about? Can you describe what it means to come to him and drink? Do you have any examples of this from your own life?
- [38] Jesus quotes Proverbs 18:4 as applying to those who believe in him: “The words of a man’s mouth are deep waters; the fountain of wisdom is a bubbling brook.” John clarifies that Jesus is talking about the Spirit as the “fountain of wisdom” or “rivers of living water”—the Spirit makes believers wise for life with God in Christ. Read 1 Corinthians 1:18-25. Why is God’s wisdom folly to unbelievers? How does the world define wisdom? Why is that true folly?
- If true wisdom, according to the Scriptures, is going to Jesus Christ for life lived with God, do you have it? How have you applied true wisdom in various aspects of your life? How has the fountain of wisdom become rivers, flowing from you to others?
