The Presbyterian Church in America (PCA)—of which Ascension is a congregation—had its 46th annual General Assembly last week (June 12-15) in Atlanta, Georgia. Around 1500 pastors and elders from the United States and Canada gathered for worship, fellowship, seminars, and the prayerful work of the church. Here is a helpful article introducing the week-long conference: “A Taste of What Elders Do for Four Days: A Layman’s Guide to General Assembly.”
The meetings were notably characterized by a spirit of unity and the charitable consideration of differing viewpoints. Last year’s moderator, Dr. Alexander Jun, an elder from California and the denomination’s first Korean-American moderator, was succeeded by Rev. Dr. Irwyn Ince, a pastor from Washington, D.C., and the denomination’s first African-American moderator. One of the high points of the week was the all-assembly seminar dedicated to the report of our denomination’s recent study committee on racial reconciliation.
By Faith, the online magazine of the PCA, has daily digests and reports of the business of the assembly for those interested in the specific work that was accomplished.
